Lithium enediolates and dienediolates of carboxylic acids in synthesis: Alkylation with secondary halides

1998

Abstract High yields in the alkylation of dianions of α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids with secondary halides can be obtained despite elimination reactions occurring. α-Regioselectivity for the alkylation of but-2-enoic acids ( 1–4 ) is seldom obtained. Although double bond stereoselectivity is higher than 99% for γ-alkylated products, stereoselectivity is rather poor for most of the α-alkylated products.

Cameroonian Medicinal Plants: Pharmacology and Derived Natural Products

2010

Many developing countries including Cameroon have mortality patterns that reflect high levels of infectious diseases and the risk of death during pregnancy and childbirth, in addition to cancers, cardiovascular diseases and chronic respiratory diseases that account for most deaths in the developed world. Several medicinal plants are used traditionally for their treatment. In this review, plants used in Cameroonian traditional medicine with evidence for the activities of their crude extracts and/or derived products have been discussed. A considerable number of plant extracts and isolated compounds possess significant antimicrobial, anti-parasitic including antimalarial, anti-proliferative, a…

RESUME:Studies on the Chemical Control of Aonidiella aurantii (Mask.)

1974

Aonidiella aurantii (Mask.) which was accidentally introduced in Sicily in 1968 has since become a dangerous pest requesting special treatments in citrus groves. Experiments have been carried out on Citrus lemon to evaluate the efficacy of several organophosphorous compounds partly in mixture with white oil and this latter applied sole (cf. table 1). The results obtained against young females are set out in table 2; they show excellent results with almost all compounds whereas the same pesticides had a rather poor effect on mature females (cf. table 3). It is concluded that the replacement of white oils by organophosphorous compounds is not justified providing that the control is directed a…

The re Structure of Cyclopropane

2000

A long-standing controversy regarding the re structure of cyclopropane is resolved by performing high-level quantum chemical calculations and analyzing the experimental rotational constants for C3H6 and C3H4D2 augmented by calculated vibrational corrections. For the latter, a least-squares fit yields the following set of parameters:  re (CC) = 1.5030(10) A, re(CH) = 1.0786(10) A, and αe(HCH) = 114.97(10)°, which compare favorably with both the pure computational result obtained at the CCSD(T)/cc-pVQZ level as well as an earlier estimate of the re structure of cyclopropane based on analysis of gas-phase electron diffraction data. Our results are in rather poor agreement with a structure base…
